My love for Japan and Japanese quiltmaking goes back to freshman year of high school when an exchange student from Nara taught me how to make a small patchwork zippered pouch. I was hooked! In this class, I will share personal stories of my time studying and working in Japan at the turn of the century and teach "Japanese Rules Quilting" as I was taught by my first mentor. We will also explore my vast collection of Japanese quilt books and magazines and try out a few small items, sewn entirely by hand.
